About Villa de Reyes
Villa de Reyes is located in the south part of the state, just 27.96 miles from the capital of San Luis Potosi, opening its doors to visitors, offering its resources and history. With a mild climate averaging 20° Celsius, the city has a beautiful desert landscape where you will see the flora and fauna which can be the perfect set design for an old west movie; coyotes, stags and hares live around the trees.
The origin of the city dates back from the XVI century, when the missionaries started to Christianize the former inhabitants, before they where conquered by the force of the Spanish soldiers weapons. Since 1862 it’s called “Villa de los Reyes” in honor and recall of the governor Don Julian de los Reyes, who also was declared as distinguished of the state. In 1914, the history registers that in the municipality, the Constitutionalist Army occupied the territory without problems, because Huerta’s troops abandoned the place deploying to the south.
In the northeast of the municipality is located Sierra de San Miguelito with an altitude of 9,842.52 feet. The central portion is composed by plains, and the rest of the territory is composed by hills. The landscape is complemented by many water resources: streams, lagoons, dams and rivers. One of the main attractions is Gogorron National Park: 25,000 hectares protected for the wild life and fauna.
The main economic activities of the municipality are: agriculture, forestry and cattle ranching, plus tourism. The visitor can have a relaxing tour by the beauties and ancient haciendas and natural resources in the surroundings, and could buy some of the leather handcrafts or drink the traditional beverages: “colonche” and “aguamiel”. Villa de Reyes offers its natural richness and the smile of its people.
